I got a copy of Mary Don Beachy’s book, The Adventure’s with Miss Lola - The Magic Paper Ride, at her book signing at Barnes and Nobles in Mentor, Ohio when the book was first published. I was honored to receive a copy signed by her and I couldn’t wait to get home and read it…plus to be able to read it to my grandsons.
When I was reading the book, it took me back to my own childhood where I envisioned myself going on my own “happy adventures!” Everyone loves to reflect on their own “childhood imagination” of happy places they loved to go and travel to…..that is what this book brought out in me. And, I’m sure from a child’s perspective, that would be the same experience they would have when the book is read to them, or reading it themselves.
In the book there are two characters that stood out to me; Amy and Thomas. They both looked up and believed in Miss Lola enough to allow her to take them on an “adventure” of a lifetime….at least in their own sweet young minds.
The lesson taught here; is for children to learn to trust an adult who wants to provide happiness and joy to them, i.e. parents, guardians, teachers, librarians, etc… Granted, as an adult knows, one cannot realistically “go on a magic paper ride”….but in a child’s mind, they have such an imagination, they can close their eyes and “imagine” doing it. The more an child “imagines,” the more they can create; whether it’s in a drawing, a painting, a story they would like to write themselves, or even when they play with their own toys.
That is the key thing that can be learned from reading Adventures with Miss Lola - The Magic Paper Ride, and that is letting your children’s mind wander to any thoughts or imagination that will bring them happiness and joy, whether it’s taking a imaginary magic paper ride, accomplishing something great, or having their own wishes and dreams come true.
I read this book to my grandsons, and I highly recommend this book to any parents or grandparents of a small child, or children, and I am sure they will really enjoy it.
